What currency is best to take to Brazil?

I am going on holiday to Brazil and have been told that I cannot buy Brazilian Reals outside of Brazil. What currency should I take to buy Brazilian Reals in Brazil? US Dollars or Pound Sterling. Thanks

2. If you need to take cash take dollars, but you're probably better of taking your debit card and getting money from an ATM. HSBC has branches all over Brazil, and ATMs at the airport in Sao Paulo

5. When I go (every 6 months) I take Brazil real R$ I can get reasonably easy in UK. Not all banks, post offices stock it... But it will only take 1 or 2 days to order it for you. Without Brazil Real you won't get anywhere in Brazil. I found the exchange rates in Brazil were bad especially at the air port
